ODE has coordinated with DHS to offer a simplified system for distributing information about the Pandemic EBT benefit.
Status of P-EBT for the 2020/2021 School Year
Oregon has submitted a plan to provide P-EBT benefits to eligible students retroactively back to October 2020. Initial P-EBT issuances will start going out by the end of May. Retroactive benefits will be broken out over the first 2 payments. Dates are contingent on final approval from the USDA, Food and Nutrition Service.
A new system is being developed to issue 2020/2021 P-EBT benefits.

WHAT MAKES A SCHOOL LUNCH?
With the implementation of the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010, school meals drastically changed compared to past generations. In order to complete a meal, students will need to take 3 of 5 meal components (or alternative protein), bread, fruit, vegetable and liquid milk; 1 of those 3 components must be a minimum of ½ cup of fruit or vegetable (both breakfast and lunch). We offer our unlimited produce bar with a selection of fruit & veggies for all students purchasing a meal!
This system gives students more flexibility of choice. For instance, a student could take ½ cup of fruit, 1 cup of vegetables and 1 milk and this would be counted as a meal. Students can take multiple fruits or vegetables, as well. However, students will still only be allowed up to 1 entrée and 1 milk to count towards their meal. If a student would like additional entrées or milk/juice, they will be charged an à la cart price for each additional item. Adult meals follow the same guidelines as student meals.

STUDENT FOOD SERVICE ACCOUNTS
Low & Negative Balance Notifications:
Automated email courtesy notifications will be sent from MealTime on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the event that your student’s account balance gets low. MealTime will also send automated email messages Monday, Wednesday, and Friday if your student’s account balance goes negative. If you do not have a valid email address linked to your student’s account, paper account statements for any negative balances over $20 will be mailed to the address on record monthly.
Students are given a PIN when they enter the District. They use this number to access their account during meal service. Students are 100% responsible for their PIN — DO NOT give out this number to friends to “borrow.” There is a picture system in place to help identify students to ensure they are using the correct number. Students of all ages are encouraged to learn their PIN quickly. For the younger students or at some unique sites, we may also use a card or roster system, and for any student forgetting their number we can look their account up by name.
Charging on Accounts:
No meal will ever be denied to students, regardless of balance, without written permission from the parent/guardian. Once we have written permission, we can lock their Mealtime account. For more information, see HERE.
Parents are expected to monitor their child’s account. MealTime is the best method for this. The District standard for meal account balances is to maintain enough funds in the account to cover all purchases. Students are allowed to charge à la carte items (such as bottled beverages, snacks, or extra entrées) as long as the student has a positive balance. Milk by itself count as an à la carte purchase.
Putting Money On Your Child’s Account:
Money can be added to your child’s account any time through MealTime, the District’s online payment service. This is by far the most secure and reliable payment method. There is a $20 minimum and the payment will post to the account almost instantly.

Check or cash are accepted on site at the cafeteria. So that we aren’t trying to process payments during service time, we ask that they be in a sealed envelope and checks made out to your child’s school include their PIN and full name. Electronic payments may also be made over the phone by calling our bookkeeper at 541-923-8914. Checks may also be mailed to our office, again with student’s full name and PIN/Student ID#.
Free & Reduced School Meals:
With the exception of students attending MA Lynch Elementary School, which qualifies for the USDA Community Eligibility Program, and any students that receive Direct Certification from the State of Oregon, all households wanting to qualify for a free or reduced school meal benefit within Redmond School District for the current school year must submit a complete application online or in paper form (English/Espanol) to the school front office or directly to the Nutrition Services Department. Due to the volume of applications received at the beginning of the year, please be aware that may take up to 10 business days to determine eligibility. All households submitting a Meal Benefit Application will be notified in writing of the determination and the date which it becomes effective. Parents are responsible for all charges on students’ accounts prior to being eligible for meal benefits. We are here to help, but meal benefit eligibility is based on USDA guidelines and beyond the control of the Nutrition Services Department.
To allow for processing and verification, any household that received a meal benefit the prior school year is eligible to receive that benefit for only the first 30 school days of the current school year or such time as a new determination is made. Households may submit a new application at any time throughout the school year should they experience a verifiable change in income.
