Assessment & Data Systems

The purpose of the Assessment pages is to provide accurate and updated information to families about the assessments in Redmond School District.

Quality assessment for learning helps both educators and their students know where students are in their learning progression and determine where they need to go next.  Used appropriately, it is a key strategy to close the achievement gap.

Oregon Statewide Assessment

Oregon is committed to preparing every learner with the knowledge and skills necessary for success beyond high school. Oregon’s statewide assessments in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics are fully aligned to Oregon’s State Academic Content Standards and provide students in grades 3-8 and 11, along with their families, one measure of academic achievement and growth. In conjunction with local and national assessments, Oregon Statewide Assessments help inform a balanced approach to instructional decisions from the classroom to the state level. Educators and administrators use state tests, performance assessments, and other forms of assessments to measure how well the Redmond School District is serving students and determine how best to support our students moving forward.

  • The Annual Notice for Oregon’s Statewide Assessments in ELA and Mathematics is published by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) at the beginning of each school year. The notice describes the statewide assessments, provides the time frame for when the assessments will be administered, and outlines parents’, guardians’, and adult students’ rights to opt the student out of taking the assessments.

  • All Oregon school districts and public charter schools must provide parents with notice at least 30 days prior to administering the state-wide summative assessments in Math and English Language Arts (ELA) using the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) provided notice and opt-out forms (English/Spanish). The published notice contains details about state testing requirements and parental rights to opt-out of the Math and/or ELA summative assessments.

If choosing to opt your student out of state testing in Math and/or ELA please follow these directions:

    1. Print a copy of the form (English/Spanish) OR pick up a copy in the main office at your student’s school
    2. Read and sign the form
    3. Return the completed form to the main office of your student’s school

Opt out requests must be in writing, and will not be accepted over the phone.

  • For state assessments other than ELA and Math, Oregon Administrative Rule 581-021-0009 allows parents to request that their student be exempted from testing based on disability or religious belief. For a school or district official to excuse a student under this rule, the parent or guardian’s request must be made in writing, listing the reasons for the request and proposing an alternative individualized learning activity for the student that meets the same goals that would be accomplished by participation in state testing. Parent requests for exemptions may be subject to review by school and/or district officials.

The Student Educational Equity Development Survey (SEED) was developed by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) to gather information about the educational experiences of students in Oregon. This information will help ODE to develop appropriate resources and supports for districts in Oregon, and better target those resources and supports where they are most needed.

Beginning in the 2023-24 school year, Oregon law (House Bill 2656) requires all Oregon school districts to offer the SEED survey to students in enrolled in grades 3-11. The survey typically takes 10-20 minutes to complete. Students may skip any question on the survey they do not wish to answer, at any time and for any reason.

House Bill 2656 also permits parents or guardians to decline to have their student participate in the SEED Survey, either verbally or in writing. Parents can decline by completing one of the forms below and submitting it to the front office of their student’s school, or by talking to school staff. Students may also decline to participate in the Survey, either verbally or in writing, before they take the Survey or after starting.

Go to the SEEDS Survey Webpage to learn more about the SEEDS Survey and to access Survey questions.  Scroll down to access the Survey questions and select the grade level.

For more information about the SEED Survey, Participation Forms in additional languages, and details concerning the questions asked in the Survey, please see the ODE’s SEED Survey Informational web page.
