REDMOND, Ore.- Angie Chown, a Sage Elementary school counselor, received the Oregon State College of Education Partner Award from OSU-Cascades on Apr. 10th at and awards luncheon in Corvallis.
Chown was nominated for this award because of the work she has done and continues to do with practicum students and interns who are training to become counselors. Chown was a key figure in establishing the Professional Development Schools (PDS) practicum training model that OSU-Cascades uses.
Co-counselor Faith Seals said that the previous practicum model wasn’t very effective at setting students up for success. The current model allows up to six students per term to observe, learn, and teach lessons to Sage students while under the guidance of Chown.
Doctors Molly Moran and Lucy Purgason from OSU said that Chown is also a sought-after internship supervisor. She has supervised close to a dozen interns at Sage Elementary.
One of Chown’s interns added to her nomination letter, “Not only is Angie an amazing school counselor that has an amazing skill set, she goes above and beyond to ensure that the practicum experience of future school counselors prepares them to go into the field. Angie helped me foster skills needed to be a school counselor, but most importantly she shared her passion for helping students.”
